Moving out diptych November 2, 2008 in nothing relevant, travels | No comments The bulk of what I own is in clothing, and the weight is in books. It took two of us less than four hours to pack up everything. It’s very possible I have less now than I did when I first drove out to Washington with my family for freshman year. It’s much easier to pack again when you never fully unpack. November 2, 2008 in travels | No comments Tomorrow morning I’m leaving for home. Bob Dylan is playing Northrop Auditorium at the University of Minnesota on election night after the polls close and I want to be there. I figure “The Times They Are A-Changin’” will never be less cliché in my lifetime, and besides he’s not getting any younger. My car is full with all my stuff and Nick will be coming along.truth about enzyte He probably won’t go to the concert. I just figure there’s nothing left to do here in Spokane. I don’t know where I’ll be or where I’d like to be a month from now, or two months from now or a year. But I had a pretty good idea for Tuesday, and these days it seems like you might as well act on any certainty you can muster. November 2, 2008 in travels | No comments Nick and I took a road trip to visit Jenna in Polson, Mont., this past week, and on Wednesday the three of us headed up to Glacier National Park to hike and drive around. None of us even considered the possibility of inclement weather, and we were rewarded with a lovely sunny day that wasn’t even too cold. We hiked to Avalanche Lake and looked around a few other spots, and didn’t get too disappointed that the road into the park was closed about 15 miles in. We encountered only a few other hikers. By the end of the day we were exhausted and almost full of beauty. Too much! Enough with the stunning white-topped mountains and turquoise lakes! Enough with tiny ice diamonds encrusting the rocks and green plants! I was almost too tired for the confectioner’s sunset on the way back, but not quite. Here’s a scrapbook of photos in the order we (mostly me and Nick, sometimes Jenna) took them throughout the day.

Look for a “The Archives: Door Documentation” spinoff blog instead. Meanwhile, these are definitely the best consecutive ways people have ever stumbled upon this humble blog. Also, I’m curious if anyone who found my blog by searching “psychology hypothesis” actually found inspiration from my coffee experiment post. Best other searches from the past week: “sasquatch eating a kitten,” “cone on church aberdeen,” “a comic about the eighth amendment,” “tried to watch an episode of the wire but,” “tapioca string” and – my favorite – “cheese block.” November 1, 2008 in nothing relevant | No comments A polite little Grim Reaper already stopped by before I had this eerie skeleton fully assembled, but now it’s up and all the neighborhood goblins can come get Reese’s, Almond Joy, Baby Ruth, Junior Mints and Milky Way until supplies run out. We didn’t feel like carving a pumpkin, but we did get two grapefruit-size pumpkinettes to put near the stairs. Then my bored-before-school 8-year-old self took over and decided to cut out a skeleton from empty boxes of frozen pizza and Diet Coke. I just took scissors to cardboard without a pattern or anything, so it’s not too bad. And paper snowflake season is just around the corner. Also I made that curtain in the door. I was going to write a post about it but ended up with a sad essay thing instead. Maybe I’ll put it up anyway sometime. October 28, 2008 in journalism, nothing relevant | No comments Today I was concerned the paper had shrunk to nothing. At least that’s how it appeared from the front door with nary a paper in sight. I looked around from different angles and eventually spotted it. Can you? Read the rest of this entry » |
